Kids Yoga with Jo Longhurst
Jo’s kids yoga classes are for primary age children ages 5 – 12.
Iyengar yoga adapted for children. In the 45 minute class they stretch out in all the different yoga poses. The kids get greater flexibility, and learn where they have stiffness in their body. Kids Yoga strengthens their muscles and provides a method to increase their patience and ability to focus. Lots of balancing poses are a great benefit for co-ordination and self awareness. Uniquely Jo teaches Rope Yoga – an Iyengar tradition. The kids hang upside down in the ropes, which is of great benefit for their blood and nervous systems as well as being lots of fun. Classes always end with lying down relaxation with blankets, bolsters and eye pillows. Here kids learn to relax and totally switch off and be peacefully self aware. Jo encourages feed back from parents on how her teaching has changed Kid’s focus and attention levels at school and how they have become more relaxed in their day to day life.
Regular yoga is a great benefit for sport. Sport teachers are great supporters of the stretching exercise that yoga brings. Yoga’s breathing techniques are also a great aid in the treatment of asthma.
